Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to Help You Make the Right Decision.

Whether you're purchasing your first piano or caring for one you've owned for years, we've answered many of the questions we hear most often from our customers.

Buying a Piano

Choosing the Right Instrument

What should I look for when buying a piano?

Focus on three things: the quality of materials, the reputation of the manufacturer and the expertise of the dealer.

At Grand Piano Haus, we encourage customers to compare instruments side by side while we explain the differences in touch, tone, construction and long-term value, so you can make a confident decision without pressure.

Should I choose an acoustic or digital piano?

Acoustic pianos offer the traditional touch, tone and presence many musicians love. Digital and hybrid pianos require very little maintenance, never need tuning and can be played with headphones.

How large of a piano should I purchase?

Choose the largest piano that comfortably fits your room and budget. Larger instruments generally provide greater tonal depth and dynamic range for years of enjoyment.

Why buy from Grand Piano Haus?

We combine decades of technical expertise with factory-direct relationships and a family approach to customer service. Our goal isn't simply to sell a piano, it is to help you find the right one.

Piano Care

Protecting Your Investment

How often should I have my piano tuned?

New pianos should generally be tuned three to four times during the first year, then at least twice each year thereafter.

Regular tuning not only keeps your piano sounding its best, but also allows your technician to identify small issues before they become larger problems.

Where should I place my piano?

Place your piano against an interior wall whenever possible, away from direct sunlight, fireplaces, exterior doors, windows and heating or cooling vents. Stable temperature and humidity help protect the instrument over time.

What is regulation?

Tuning improves how your piano sounds. Regulation improves how it feels to play by restoring the action mechanism so the keyboard remains even, responsive and expressive.

How can I protect my piano from humidity?

Maintaining a stable environment is one of the best ways to protect your piano. Climate control systems such as Dampp-Chaser help preserve the wood, strings, action and tuning stability throughout the year.

Learning & Education

The Value of Learning Piano

Are there benefits to children studying piano?

Yes. Beyond learning music, piano study can help children develop discipline, patience, confidence, organization and creative thinking.

The piano also introduces students to one of the richest musical traditions, with repertoire spanning many of history's greatest composers.

Does music really help students academically?

Many studies have linked music education with stronger academic performance, especially in areas that require focus, pattern recognition, memory and problem solving.

While every student is different, piano study can support both artistic and intellectual development.

Technology

Modern Piano Possibilities

Why do people add player piano systems?

Player systems allow your piano to perform music automatically, from solo piano pieces to full arrangements with recorded artists.

When professionally installed, they do not harm the piano and can make the instrument enjoyable for the entire household, even when no one is playing.

What is a Yamaha Disklavier?

Yamaha Disklavier pianos combine traditional acoustic performance with advanced technology. They can record and play back performances, stream music and connect with modern entertainment and educational features.
